Storm Doris threatened to derail all our plans. 90mph winds, snow and rain loomed. After a 3.30am wake-up call, Max made his way to Gatwick. Twitter updates didn't look good. All flights out of Heathrow cancelled. But luck was obviously on his side. Breezing through check-in, his cello was eagerly welcomed on-board alongside him and he arrived ten minutes early into Glasgow airport. It was snowing heavily but he managed to find a taxi happy to take him to the university, where he found the concert hall amid the beautiful gothic-style architecture of the campus, dating back to 1757.
The first concert was a 1pm recital of Haydn and Ravel as part of the University lunchtime concert series. It was great to start off the tour with a completely packed-out concert hall of around 200 people, and we were grateful for a really warm reception, with lots of lovely comments from the audience after the performance.
After a lunch of herculean-proportions (see photos), we retired to the hotel for a brief afternoon rest before all squeezing into Luba's room to rehearse some Mozart and Schubert.
